Sarah will do a demonstration of the portrait sketch in oils, a head-and-shoulders painting done in three hours. The process will begin with a toned canvas, proceed with a simple drawing, move on to laying in the dark values and move to the lighter values and finally the highlights. Careful attention is paid to the planes of the face.

The Woodward Building presents an evening of food and drink to benefit Rebuilding Together DC, an organization that has provided free home repairs to the elderly in disabled in D.C. for 25 years.
Participating artists and businesses include Be You Design,the Downtown BID, Mary Early, Paul Reuther, Zach Sasin, Joe Shymanski, Quest Skinner. Enjoy a taste from restaurants Ceiba, Ten Pehn, and Levante's.

We continue to live in this landscape, one that has always been dominated by nature and her persistent power. Sarah Griffin Thibodeaux will open her studio at 928 Port Street as part of the Marigny Bywater Open Studio Tour, which celebrates its third anniversary. On display will be recent portraits, quick studies, and landscapes of Florence. The quarterly Marigny/Bywater Open Studio event highlights the artists working in post-Katrina New Orleans. Twenty-six artists are opening their studios this month. This event is free and open to the public.

As part of the Marigny/Bywater Open Studio tour, Sarah Griffin Thibodeaux will open her studio at 928 Port Street. On display will be recent portraits, figure paintings and landscapes. The quarterly Marigny/Bywater Open Studio event highlights the artistic creation occurring in these historic neighborhooods. More than thirty artists' studios will be open to the public.

Along with two other artists, Griffin Thibodeaux will display her recent work in the store windows and set up her easel and demonstrate her work. Thibodeaux will demonstrate painting portraits from life throughout the month. A closing reception will be held Saturday September 3, 2005 from 6-9 p.m.
